Officer Duties and Descriptions: DIVERSITY DEVELOPMENT ADVOCATE

I. Constitutional Duties
The Diversity Development Advocate is appointed by and responsible to the President and serves as a voting member of the Executive Board and chairs the Diversity Development Committee. The Diversity Development Advocate is responsible for the promotion and development of diversity and inclusiveness within the PACRAO community.

II. Specific Duties

  1. Work with the Diversity Development Committee to sponsor activities throughout the year and across the PACRAO region
    1. Convene regular electronic or in-person meetings of the diversity development committee.
    2. Develop special activities such as workshops, special topics sessions and association events promoting diversity.
    3. Report to the board the projected budget for the year and manage the funds allotted.
    4. Work with past Vice President for Professional Development to ensure that cultural diversity is addressed in Success Seminars

  2. Promote sensitivity and commitment to diversity in PACRAO
    1. Submit articles regarding diversity development to the Vice President for Publication and Information Technology for inclusion in the association newsletter.
    2. Assist the Vice President for Professional Development in promoting professional development and travel grant applications.

  3. Conference Responsibilities
    1. Plan the program for Diversity Development Breakfast: select keynote speaker; work with the local arrangements committee to schedule the food, room and any audio-visual equipment; advertise the event through PACRAO communication means (e.g., newsletter, web site, conference program, flyers).
    2. Plan the Diversity Development Connection sessions and coordinate logistics with the local arrangements committee.
    3. Work with Program Committee to suggest members interested in participating as session chair, recorder or presenter.
    4. Identify a member of the Diversity Development Committee to work with the Program Committee to assist with developing diversity sessions.
    5. Work with Vice President for Professional Development to participate in new member orientation. Discuss the advocate’s responsibilities, the goals of the committee, and offer to serve as a resource to new members.
    6. Convene a meeting of the Diversity Development Committee and report to the membership the year’s activities of the committee.

III. Chronology of Activity

November
  • Meet with Diversity Development Committee prior to or during the conference
  • Participate in new member /DDC orientation
  • Host Diversity Development Connection session/s
  • Participate in Executive Board Committee Meeting
  • In transition years, serve as a resource to the new Diversity Development Advocate

December
  • Recruit and select members for Diversity Development Committee. Refer members who are interested in participating in the conference program to the Program Chair
  • Prepare article for the winter newsletter

January
  • Attend Executive Committee Meeting; announce committee members

February
  • Secure keynote speaker for Diversity Development Breakfast

March
  • Submit an article for spring newsletter
  • Work with the local arrangements committee to identify facilities and logistical needs for Diversity Development sessions and activities for the conference

April
  • Attend AACRAO annual conference if possible. Discuss the progress of Diversity projects at PACRAO Board meeting

May
  • Deadline for submission of articles for summer newsletter
  • Meet with Diversity Development Committee to inform them of AACRAO conference outcomes and plan any activities.

June
  • Convene a Diversity Development Committee Meeting (if one did not occur in May).

July
  • Deadline for submission of articles for fall newsletter
  • Attend Executive Board meeting and provide an update on committee activites.
  • Coordinate new members’ orientation session with the Vice President for Professional Development

September
  • Finalize conference activities
  • Work with the President-elect to identify a new Diversity Development Advocate.

October
  • Promote Diversity Development activities scheduled for the conference
  • Convene a committee meeting
  • Prepare annual report to the board and forward a copy to the new Diversity Development Advocate in a transition year
